Our Story
On Target Outfitters began in 2008
when Steve Scott felt called to offer young people the same guidance and mentorship he had received as a boy. Older men in his life used a shared love for the outdoors and outdoor sports to teach skills, build character, and invest personally in him. Through that time together, trust was formed, truth was spoken, and Steve was discipled in his faith. Steve always says, “I am who I am today because of the impact those guys had on my life.”
Inspired to pass that opportunity on to a new generation, Steve shared his vision with a group of trusted business leaders, who became the founding board of directors. Together, they launched On Target Outfitters in Canfield, Ohio.
From Mobile Ministry to Year-Round Impact
In its earliest days, On Target Outfitters operated as a mobile ministry — a truck and trailer traveling to parks, schools, churches, and rented spaces for summer camps. But it quickly became clear that lasting mentoring required more than seasonal programs.
In 2013, On Target Outfitters purchased a “fixer-upper” property in Canfield. Over time, it transformed into a flagship facility where kids could be mentored, challenged, and encouraged year-round. This location continues to impact countless young lives and serves as a hub for ministry growth.
Expanding the Reach
By 2018, the board began planning to expand beyond Canfield. In 2019, the second chapter launched in Findlay, Ohio, followed by a third chapter in Portage County in 2024.
To date, On Target Outfitters has touched the lives of more than 4,000 youth participants and their families, trained over 120 high school and college students in ministry, and provided hundreds of volunteers a place to serve.
The Next Chapter
We are actively seeking locations for the next On Target Outfitters chapters, praying for communities where young people will be reached with Christ-centered mentorship. God is calling us to advance the ministry to more kids, train more leaders, and create more spaces where young people can encounter faith, friendship, and life-shaping guidance.
